Rank baseball coaches in order of importance
I got to thinking. Are all coaches equal in MLB? Kinda a Knights of the Round Table thing? OR do certain ones have more importantance. Rank the following;
Pitching coach
Hitting Coach
1st base
3rd Base
Bench Coach
Bullpen Coach
Heres my list:
6. Bullpen coach: Prime job: Answer the phone. Know when a guys warm. Basically your the Pitching coaches assistant..sweet gig
5. Bench Coach: You offer ideas to the manager, and serve as someone to bounce ideas off of.
4. 1st base coach. Important but not as much as other 3.
3. Hitting coach: Very important job, but the other two rank higher
2. 3rd base coach. Tough gig. You have to know arm strength of OF, give signs, know speed of your runners...etc
1. Pitching coach. Just as important as a manager I think. He runs the whole show pitching wise. Good pitching coaches are good for about 4 more wins a year. Bad ones cost ya 10. Great ones turn water into win (Duncan, Mazzone).
What say you?

I'd probably keep it, and if anything flip 2 and 1.Swatcat27 wrote:I'd flip 3 & 2.valley_card22 wrote:I got to thinking. Are all coaches equal in MLB? Kinda a Knights of the Round Table thing? OR do certain ones have more importantance. Rank the following;

but man i was distracted
got to thinking which of the knights would fit with which coached
so I moved from Lancelot to Guinevere
Then I imagined FRBG as Guinevere, and so my answer is whichever coach fits the profile of Lancelot is the most important because ANY connection to FRBG trumps all other importances.

Am I the only one that thinks the real cush job is Bench coach?? You say your opinion, that's it.stlmark wrote:I would go with:
1) Pitching coach
2) Bench coach
3) 3rd base coach
4) 1st base coach
5) hitting coach
6) Bullpen coach
1) Pitching coach
2) Hitting coach
3) Bullpen coach (he actually explains the strategy for specific match-ups, plus fine-tuning AAAA pitcher's mechanics, give the guy some credit)
4) 3rd base coach
5) 1st base coach
6) Bench coach
Now my list is more "player development", if it was more important in game situations it would be this...
1) Pitching coach
2) 3rd base coach
3) 1st base coach
4) bullpen coach
5) hitting coach
6) bench coach
Maybe it's just how I see the game, but isn't a difference in opinion one of the reasons this game's so great?

Unless you disagree with me, because I'm always right.TAZ wrote:Am I the only one that thinks the real cush job is Bench coach?? You say your opinion, that's it.stlmark wrote:I would go with:
