Pujols is swinging the bat well, and I've already given my impressions on Hancock. http://gatewayredbirds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16642

To early to panic. I am disappointed with some of the sloppy play today, that really can't happen. Kennedy getting picked and not diving into the bag, Duncan throwing to the wrong base etc... Need to do a better job with those little things.

I'm not going to panic because I knew this team could be bad going in.

Still plenty of time. Can't be on top forever.

but, i would have expected the world champions to come out trying to play like world champs

I am beginning to feel the way I felt when the Dallas Cowboys came tumbling back to earth after dominating the mid-nineties. It is sad to see your favorite ballclub struggle.

I am starting to think going cheap again is going to hurt the Cards big time. When you start with 4 ?'s in the starting rotation, then your ace goes down it spells trouble. That isn't even mentioning the outfield.

We are playing in NL Central, folks. There is no reason to panic. But there is plenty to get concerned.

From Bernie:
Wainwright last 3 starts:
15.2 IP
17 ER
27 H
9 BB

velocity down...

also, if Cardinals (down 7-0) proceed to lose today... it means that no starter other than Looper has won a game since April 8.

1983 79 83 .488 11.0
1986 79 82 .491 28.5
1988 76 86 .469 25.0

Sometimes World Champs (and NL Champs) come back to the pack. Over the past 7 seasons we've enjoyed the Cardinals most prolific stretch since WWII. I know it's still early, but I don't have a problem with treating this as a rebuilding year, if that's how it turns out.

We were an 83 win team last year. I don't think we're straying too far from that level of performance with this start in '07.

Right now our bats are our biggest problem (although we have others), and I fully expect at least Pujols and Rolen to come around for good at some point. We could still use another big bat though.
