RP Dennis Dove Called up

Post by Bizzy15 »

Dove, who had been pitching for the Class AAA Memphis Redbirds, was called up to the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday. Dove will be with the Cardinals Monday when they play the Milwaukee Brewers in Miller Park in Milwaukee.

At Memphis, Dove was 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA. He had struck out seven and walked six in 12 innings of work.

The news of his call-up was met with mixed emotions as Dove will take the roster spot of St. Louis pitcher Josh Hancock, who was killed in an automobile accident early Sunday morning.

Congrats on the callup.. sucks it had to come this way!

Since Jimenez was already up, I wondered if Dennis "97 mph heavy fastball" Dove was far behind.

It does suck that he'll be taking the place of JH, however. I wish the kid could've gotten a shot without the tragedy.

It's a tough spot to be in. I don't know how those guys will pull themselves together and play a game tonight.

Wow. I know what I'll think of when I see Dove from now on.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the heat. I saw him in ST one inning, I liked the velocity but I wondered how that would play at the big league level. It seemed pretty straight from the CF camera angle. Now we will find out.

Good luck, Dove. I'm pulling for you. This is going to be a tougher job than it would have already been for this young man.

I really hope he makes the most out of it and does well. I can't even imagine how awkward that must feel for him to walk into the clubhouse today.

That's really tough for Dove; talk about having mixed emotions about being called up to the bigs for the first time.

Good luck to him. When things get back to normal, I'll be eager to see if his Spring Training stuff was an indication of things to come.

I don't mean to sound cold, but if it were me the circumstances under which I was called up wouldn't make a difference at all, at least once I was at work. I can certainly see thinking about it in your apartment before you head to the park, but once there I don't think it would phase me.

I agree...although probably for a diferent reason. One of the things I love most about sports (or even just physical activity) is that it's a nice cathartic way to escape from life's worries for awhile. I used to skate or do hockey drills for hours when I was feeling down...now I usually do something golf related, or a high-intensity workout. The physical activity itself, the familiarity of repeating motions you've done hundreds of times before, being able to let the mind go and function without an active thought process..it's all very comforting to me. It makes me feel very alive in the moment, and thankful to be that way.

Sports have helped me get through some of my toughest times.
