Good News
MILWAUKEE -- Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter passed a significant test over the weekend as he attempts to come back from elbow problems that landed him on the disabled list.

After a 60-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Carpenter awoke Sunday with no pain and no stiffness in his right elbow.

He will pitch a simulated game Tuesday -- throwing live to selected batters -- before the Cardinals take on the Brewers in a 7:05 p.m. game.

If Carpenter is pain-free in the aftermath of the simulated game, he is optimistic that he will be activated and return to the Cards' starting rotation.

Carpenter's only appearance was in the season opener April 1 against the Mets at Busch Stadium.

The next time we need a fifth starter will be next week, Tuesday, May 8. I'm guessing Carp will, after he does his simulated game this Tuesday, pitch one more bullpen session on Saturday. If he's pain-free after both of those situations, then he'll probably be activated and will start on May 8 at home against the Rockies.

I'm sure May 8 is the target. Let's hope he gets out of his next session ok.

As much as I don't wish injury upon other players....I do wish for them to take a long time to get back if theyre a guy as good as Chris Carpenter. In other words I think he should make 1 or 2 rehab starts in the minors, but thats me.
