Where will we get out next positional all star from?

Jocketty has been a master of pulling stars in trades. McGwire, Rolen, Edmonds, Walker and Renteria were all masterful trades. We have also been able to develop JD Drew and Albert Pujols through the minor league system.
It's becoming painfully obvious we need another all star type player to replace the production of a declining Edmonds. I fear trading for one is much harder these days, we've never signed one as a free agent, and potential all star type prospects in our system seem few and far between.
So where do you think our next positional all star will come from?

It's tough to say... Rasmus isn't going to be here until 2009, and it would be silly to pencil him an as an All-Star... besides that, I don't think that, if the struggles this year continue (which I don't think they will, which renders the rest of my post useless) that we'd go next off-season without making a splash.

I cant see the Cardinals going out and making a huge trade to bring someone in; because they will then have to give up one of their big prospects or several along with a major league ready player... much like Wainwright, Reyes, Duncan...
sure we all say we would trade some of these guys but then you leave yourself even more holes...
Something is telling me this might be your mediocre year but I think another year for Duncan to develop and figure out what you have with the youngsters and Looper in the rotation and we might have a good team for a few years...
but I think some of the guys in the minors might be on their way up before to long....
On a side note I wouldnt be surprised to throw Ankiel in the mix and make him an "allstar" at some point... when he starts to recognize the pitches a bit better which it appears he is starting to do... and remember he is only 25(26)...

am i too pessimistic?
Was it my attending the game monday in milwaukee and being bored getting to me?
but i see our next star coming from the draft, but I dont see it happening for a few years. I am _just_ hoping that our team doesnt completely suck the next couple of seasons. But if we do suck we might get some good drafts.
I have my moments of optimism, but when I look around at other teams it is clear that the Cards are just not as talented as a whole bunch of other teams right now.
Sorry, i am just feeling pessimistic as I have to go teach a few classes and many of my students are big time brewers fans. I guess i will just have to pull out my 10 Championships hat when they get persnickity

I think the marquee guy for the next 5 years will be Albert.
All the rest of the guys on the immediate horizon within the system, at best, will provide a solid supporting cast.
I don't think the Cardinals organization will ever drop major coin on a free agent, so the next uber-Cardinal is probably in HS or college and yet to be drafted. Or, he's living in Dominican.

I think Walt will have to go out and sign a allstar caliber FA. He has to after watching this horrible offense. At some point, they are going to have to spend some cash and I think the Cards brass knows this.

Duncan will be a reserve at some point the next two seasons...
