Jered Weaver

Post by Gashouse »

I avoided drafting the younger Weaver for fear of a sophomore slump, but he appears to be doing OK so far. Someone has proposed the following trade:

Weaver
Adrian Gonzalez

for

Haren

On some level, it looks like a no brainer and that I should do it. I'd be selling Haren high, even if he'll have a very solid year. But I don't really need Gonzalez (I have Fielder). But he could be my utility guy and insurance if Fielder eats his own arm.

But my question is really about Weaver - does anyone have any strong feelings for how he'll do this year?

My pitching is really struggling right now, and Haren is my best at the moment. So I hesitate because I'd only be making my weakness even weaker. I suppose to could try to flip Gonzalez or Fielder for more pitching, but no one else really needs a 1B at this point.

This is not a keeper league.

I'd still do it. Weaver should come very close to approximating Haren's numbers the rest of the way and Gonzalez is a huge bonus at utility and a good trading chip.

Weaver's been very inconsistent this year. I have him on one league. Check his game by game stats.

I would definitely do it.

If nothing else you could turn Adrian Gonzalez around to fill another hole.

He had an awful outing in Detroit on 4-23, but since then he's had 5 QS in a row - well, almost 5. Plus consistent K/in. I didn't look deep enough to see all of his starts in April.

I'd definitely choose Haren over Weaver, but with Gonzalez thrown in, I'm leaning towards doing it. Maybe I can keep Gonzalez and try to turn Fielder into Peavy.

That is a good idea. Peavy is the man. I personally like little Weaver as well.

If it's a non-keeper league, I'd make that trade.

(Long-term, I don't like Weaver's health prospects with those mechanics.)

Would you have to drop anyone since you are getting 2 for 1? That might change my opinion.
