Interesting stuff, especially to us MVC folk. A bit unsettling to Illini fans though...

Two years ago my dad said Bradley would overtake Illinois in recruiting within three years. I laughed at him and he likes to remind me about it now.

I understand that Dick Versace was involved in mega prospect Iman Shumpert's visit. Dick Victory could go to Kiener Plaza at 4p today and sell ski parkas.

Yeah, that's what my dad said. Apparently when they took him to lunch at One World Cafe (don't know if you're familiar with it, but it is the trendy restaurant right across the street from Avantis by the campus) Versace went in ahead and had everybody in the restaurant give him a standing O.

Many Purdue basketball fans were dismayed that Bruce Weber and Gene Keady could not set their respective egos aside in order to ensure that Bruce would indeed take the job Keady had always wanted him to have. That dismay turned to outright anger and envy on the Indiana side of I-74 when Bruce took the Illini on a marvelous run to the NCAA title game......

However since that title run, Weber's ability to consistently lure top-shelf talent to Illinois is eerily similar to Gene Keady's thru most of his tenure at Purdue---meanwhile, the "fallback" choice in the minds of many of the Purdue faithful, Matt Painter, engineered a tremendous return to competitiveness with last year's team, and is consistently scoring big for Purdue in the recruiting wars.

Who'd a thunk it?

Yeah...I've been critical of Webber's recruiting for some time now, even got "blasted" for it at the PD's Illini talk forum for it March.

Unless and until the Illini can get back to recruiting from the Chicago market they are in trouble.

There is no reason for Illinois to do well in Chicago. This is going to get Weber in trouble if he's not careful.

If you're an Illinois based school, you MUST recruit Chicagoland well. There are enough high-end basketball players up there to stock Illinois, Bradley, Ill. State, SIU, DePaul and the so-called national powers on a consistant basis.
