Missouri Vehicle Registration

It's complicated and stupid. There, I said it. I'd rather pay the $150 per vehicle or whatever I paid in Indiana while only having to send a check rather than jump through all of the stupid safety/emmissions checks, personal property tax, etc. hoops for Missouri.
I want to do something to show my protest of this dumb system. I think when I go to city hall, I will wear a t-shirt that says "Missouri Sucks and Their Vehicle Registration System Is Annoying". That should teach them.

MO is by far the worst state for vehicle registration. I challenge a poster from another state to top Missouri's reg requirements.

I lived in St. Louis for 3 years before transferring my car registration over from Illinois - just because of the headache of doing so. It was kind of fun being a scofflaw for so long.

I miss Ohio. They send you letter. You send them check for like $30. They send you new stickers. You have successfully renewed your registration.

I guess you are saying that they don't have online registration? Do you actually have to go to the DMV every year to register your vehicle and get your tags? I just have get an emissions test (takes 10 minutes) and send the score, along with my check, to the state....a week or so later, my tag arrives. I could pay online if my car wasn't required to have an emissions test......
Come on, MO, get with the times!

You can do it online, but you must have like 17,000 different things--receipt that you've paid personal property tax, safety inspection certificate, emissions inspection certificate, blood sample, feather from a newborn duck, etc.--to do it.
I just want to write a check. I don't care how much it is. Don't make me jump through hoops.

I've known people who were seriously screwed by the safety inspection. They'll get you for just about anything, I remember one had a small crack in her windshield. Then you're held hostage until you make the costly repairs, all the while fearful of getting pulled over since your tags are expired. That's why the stickers are so valuable and prone to be stolen; there are so many hoops.

I know of several people who have had their stickers stolen, and i'm sure this is why.
It's such a pain that i'm almost reluctant to buy a new vehicle because I know i'll have to get it to pass inspection and all that stuff (btw, if you want a break on your inspection take it to a non-mechanic place who is licensed for inspections, like Auto Tire, or take it to a ghetto mechanic shop in the city, do not by any means take it to a high-quality mechanical shops who cater to cars that are less than 10 years old.) when this one isn't due until march of 09.

ooooh my stories. ooooooooh my stories.
The Missouri Vehicle Registration process is like some family that is the cousins of the Sopranos.
The EMISSIONS part of the family should get knocked off fast and it should have happened years ago.
Extortion.
