Worst draft pick ever

Post by heyzeus »

This weekend, in my fantasy football league, some guy took Tiki Barber. In the third round.

We didn't even know what to say. If I knew the guy, I would've let him have it. But everyone basically stayed silent until a few picks later, when it became too much.

Wow

That's what I love about my league, all the guys in it are big football fans. Thus, it is very competitive and something like that would never happen.

The sad thing is I bet this guy thought he was getting quite the steal. I mean, any other year Tiki Barber would be a dream come true in the 3rd round.

I don't play FFB, but this question would pertain to any fantasy draft:

How do you continue drafting when someone selects a retired player? Don't you tell him that player is unavailable and to select again? Or am I just a nice commissioner/leaguemate?

We had something similar happen in my baseball draft this year where someone wanted Zobrist or Pence or someone who wasn't available (through Yahoo!) yet, so we had him immediately pick someone else.

if it's a live draft via Yahoo software, you can't let them immediately pick again.

I know a lot of folks, myself included, get irked when people are so unprepared for the draft that they select players who are retired or injured or whatever and then complain about it. They kinda deserve to lose that pick and have to replace it off the free agent scrap heap after the draft. They obviously won't be too bummed about it if they couldn't bother to prepare for the draft to begin with.

True. Ours was a draft via conference call, and then I submitted all draft picks later.

We had guys like this early in my league before they were "weeded" out. At first we'd say something, then we all decided if someone is that unprepared they deserve it.

It's pretty stupid, but you can recover from a bad pick pretty easily. Even as bad as taking Tiki Barber in the 3rd round.

That's a little surprising that Tiki was still even on the draft list. I don't play fantasy football, but is it normal for the draft lists to be so outdated?

... maybe the guy will select Michael Vick in the 4th round. :)

I think they started leaving retired players on the roster after Roger Clemens unretired for the 5th season in a row
