A Tie? What the Heck! (GRB H2H)

First week of the playoffs, and Abdullah and I tie in points. Why the heck does he get to move on toward the championship and I get stuck playing for 5th place? Not the fairest system in the world, is it? Oh well.

Anyone know the actually rules regarding playoff ties? I'm sure it has something to do with regular season record or head-to-head season wins.

In the case of ties, the commissioner gets to choose who advances...

the default yahoo tie breaker is ERA.

We had this happen last year and came up with new tie breaker rules to avoid that (using roto stats for the week). I don't think you can change it in yahoo, though. We run our playoffs on a message board because we start a week earlier.

ERA? That makes no sense at all.

that's why we changed it.

I guess it's yahoo's attempt to pick an easy tie breaker category that the two teams are pretty unlikely to tie in after a week's worth of games.

By the way Fat, I never asked you, but how do you think the blockbuster deal we made turned out for you?

Here's the trade again, just for everyone who might read this...

I think it worked out well for me. Peavy continued to be a great starter. Utley had a fantastic year for me, up until his injury. Considering that Uggla hasn't been a consistent performer, I needed Utley to come in and stabilize my lineup, and he certainly did that.

My problems this season were with Manny Ramirez and Carlos Zambrano. If those two guys would have performed at their normal levels, then I probably would have finished right by you in the standings.

From your side, the trade certainly didn't hurt. Jose Reyes had an MVP caliber season. Lackey has been a top-notch starter all season. I drafted him because I thought he could take a significant step forward this year, and he has, putting up Cy Young caliber #'s.

What I LOVE about the deal is that we both got guys that would could definitly keep into next season. Utley and Peavy are locks as keepers. Considering that I drafted Zambrano and to some extent Manny believing I would have them next year, it's good to have better options now.

All in all, I think it was a great trade for me. Can't say that it hurt you at all, considering where you are in the standings. Your team looks very solid, this year and next.
