Scott Linehan
I'm becoming less and less of a pro football fan every year and the Rams aren't helping to retain my interest. So to a person whose knowledge of the Rams is limited, why does Scott Linehan not deserve to get fired? I don't want to be one of those casual fans who says "Izzy sux", but even factoring injuries, he's been horrible to the laywoman watching. It seems to me he's turned this offense into a sad shadow of its old self even before the injuries to the offensive line, Jackson, Bulger, and Bruce. Anyone want to take a crack at explaining why or why not Linehan should get canned?

Because it's in the middle of the season and unless something extremely scandalous happens, there's no point in firing a coach at mid-season.

If I owned the Rams, I'd clean out the front office. Everyone below "owner" and above "head football coach" is outta here.
Too many suits. Not enough football people.

How I long for the Mike Martz days! I felt like Martz got the raw deal.....he didn't get along with upper management, so it was decided he needed to go but none of upper management. I don't get it....does Shaw still sit in LA, calling the shots from there and his cronies can do no wrong? Seriously, given their woeful the play the last number of years, I don't understand why they haven't completely cleaned house. I also wish Georgia would just sell out to Stan....
Ah well......

Re: Scott Linehan
I've lost all interest in the NFL. I play fantasy football, but have only watched 2 games this season. I watched one last season. I don't know what it is, the 30 commercial breaks, the idiot fans, the thug players, or all the media buzz, but I really don't lik eit. I much prefer to watch college football on Saturday and then do something else on Sunday, planet pujolsian wrote:I'm becoming less and less of a pro football fan every year and the Rams aren't helping to retain my interest. 1. He hasn't had anything close to a decent offensive line in his entire tenure which has been, of course, very brief.
2. His WR corps this year have either been injured or have otherwise performed terribly(dropped passes, missed routes, etc).
3. Injuries have completely crippled his team, really both years but this year especially.
4. Apart from the QB(who they claim is injured yet still plays), the Place Kicker, and some WRs, he doesn't have much talent to work with.
Besides, typically you give an NFL coach 3 seasons no matter what.
I'm not saying I'm in love with Linehan, mind you. I feel he has no connection or motivational ability with his players, and considering that most of them are, as they say, "His guys" that he brought in, that's rather alarming.
But believe me when I say: he ain't the problem here.

Re: Scott Linehan
Cronos said it.
The Rams' problems begin at the top more than anything. Linehan hasn't helped himself by losing his players, but they brought in the personnel director from Carolina, yet he doesn't DO anything, because the wrong people are still running the team. They bring in guys who can't play, draft guys who have problems and it's just a mess.
I haven't been thrilled with Haslett's defense, but the guys play hard. I'd like to see what they could do with guys who can play hard AND play smart.

Re: Scott Linehan
Granted Ihaven't been able to watch any Rams games this season, I'm pretty sure the problem has more to do with defensive personnel than Haslett's system. Haslett has had some pretty good defenses in the past and if I recall, the defense improved greatly his first year here from Martz.GatewaySnayke wrote:Cronos said it.

As far as Mike Martz goes - I don't think he got a raw deal at all. I think he's a brilliant Coordinator but for some reason I don't think he can really handle being a head coach. I felt he mismanaged a team that had a solid defense and watched it fall apart without caring. And he was awful at setting up the running game. You can't win with a crappy defense and no running game.
I don't think Linehan is the answer, but there's a reason that Left Tackles are the second highest paid position in football - behind QB's. Bulger has broken ribs and you can't run the ball with a crap line.

Re: Scott Linehan
The defense has looked this year more like what I expected it to be last year; maybe a little bit more talent being present has clouded my judgment, or maybe he just needed a year to get his guys in and fix the system from the Marmie era. I have only a few issues with the defense so far this year.GatewaySnayke wrote:

And Vins: it's always been my opinion that Martz is a brilliant offensive mind, and I wish he had stayed in capacity as an OC. But, as you said, he just wasn't a head coach, for many reasons and I'm not sorry that he's gone.
