I grew up in the suburbs and I'm a bit of a hater. I'm in Schrewsbury now, and I feel like I'm so far away from the city.cardinalkarp wrote:Its only the city folk that hate the suburbs.
When harpos is the best place to go, you live in a boring area. (Chesterfield)
Everything is clean though. They've got that goin' for them.

is it really the worst thing in the world to have a house that looks like someone else's? And how at all does that reflect upon the people who live in them?omaha_red wrote:every house, every yard, every neighborhood looks exactly the same.

Not really. More of a blanket thread from my observations.planet pujolsian wrote:Chain joints. Is this rant directed at a specific thread somewhere?

Probably some truth to that.cardinalkarp wrote:Its only the city folk that hate the suburbs.
I grew up in Webster Groves, which is really nice.
But here in Chicago, the suburbs to me are places that have traffic and housing prices similar to the city without the convenience, amazing pubs and restaurants, and eye candy of my northside neighborhood. It's the worst of everything.
If I could not live here in Chicago, I'd rather slumming on the coast near Santa Barbara or living in some small college town surrounded by the northwoods, the mountains, or the high desert. Any place but the burbs.

Good schools and extra space is the only upside I see. But yeah, I'm a city snob.
