According to Tracy Ringolsby of FOXSports.com, the Rockies have considered signing right-hander Todd Wellemeyer.
The starting rotation appears set in Colorado, so this would strictly be for depth in the event of injury, or if Jeff Francis suffers a setback in his return from shoulder surgery. Wellemeyer, 31, struggled with elbow injuries of his own last season, compiling a 5.89 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in 122 1/3 innings with the Cardinals.

I actually think Welly is worth a flier. I think the big increase in workload in 2008 showed itself in 2009. If he's healthy, he can be effective as a swingman.

The Rockies couldn't match Washington's offer to Marquis? Either that or they're very confident that Francis will make a strong comeback.

No way Wellemeyer does more than a little mop-up duty. On the road.

The baseball world probably thought the same thing when the Cards picked him up. Just sayin'.

A fly ball pitcher with a below average K rate in Coors. But, yeah, it's possible that Wellemeyer could surprise.

Todd Wellemeyer said Thursday that the Mets, Rockies and Giants have shown interest and that he expects to sign in the next three days.
It's doubtful he lands a contract worth over $1 million or a guaranteed spot in any starting rotation. The 31-year-old compiled a 5.89 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in 122 1/3 innings with the Cardinals last season while struggling with elbow issues. He told a St. Louis radio station Friday that he's in great shape, but that doesn't change the fact that he is a less-than-inspiring pitcher.
