Sherman writes that Beltran wonders if he should have played at all last season and therefore doesn't expect him to prioritize the team this time around. How he knows exactly what is going on in Beltran's head is anybody's guess, but the Mets will have to get by with Angel Pagan and Gary Matthews Jr. in center field for at least a little while.

The height of Citi Field's center-field wall will be sliced in half, making the ballpark more homer-friendly, the Daily News has learned. Last season, the wall measured 16 feet in front of the sparsely used Home Run Apple. Now, with the second level of padding being removed, it will measure eight feet in the middle of the outfield.

Carlos Beltran made nice when he got to Mets' camp, saying that he got over the club's hardball tactics in the wake of Beltran's decision to have surgery after Mets doctor David Altcheck approved it but the Mets had yet to give written approval (Mets ownership has threatened to dock is pay over this, depending on his ability to play this year). However, a teammate said that Beltran is not quite as over it as he suggests and said he believes that Beltran is likely to go when his contract is up.
