On the verge of landing Heyward

I know a lot of people think he's overrated, but the kid is 21 and I really do think he'll consistently be a .270/.400/.500 type guy in the near future, which is pretty damn good (well, I'm probably inflating OBP and SLG a bit, but I do think he'll be near .900 OPS)

Anyway, right now we're at Shelby Miller + for Heyward, obviously it will come down to the +

but if we agree on something where the + isn't too significant (maybe Trey McNutt or 2) I'll be looking at a roster like this for the future

and stepping into 2b in the near future would probably be Anthony Rendon, since I have the first overall pick this year, and stepping into SS would probably be Jose Iglesias, though I also have Tim Beckham and he's starting to look a little better

Given your rotation, and the number of Orioles in it (plus Lohse), I would try to retain Miller.

I get why you're trying to upgrade your OF, but I would be exhausting other options.

I tried to push for dealing my 1st overall pick or Brett Lawrie, but he's most interested in Miller (pitching prospects are incredibly valuable in this league). I tried looking at the deal as if I were the Cardinals, and if the Braves said they're making Heyward available, I'd consider sending Miller and Cox for him. I have high hopes that Zimmermann, Hughes, Matusz, Britton and then Carrasco/Litsch/Lohse would make a solid rotation. I sort of expect Stewart to be a reliever. I also have McNutt, Trevor May, Brad Lincoln, David Holmberg, Roman Mendez, and a hand full of other pitchers in my minors, so I should have some mid to back end of the rotation talent on the way.

Yea... he wouldn't like it at all, but I think Heyward will be a stud. Severely unlucky 2011, normalize his BABIP and he's much closer to that .270/.400/.500 line.

I'd be interested in seeing how many other people feel that way.

Elite arms are very hard to find, but he's also never pitched above AA and pitchers seem to fall apart all the time. I've had so many big prospects bust that I don't value them as highly as young players already in the bigs.

edit* I don't know if it means anything or not, but Marc Hulet at fangraphs estimates Shelby's peak WAR level to be 5.5. At age 20, Heyward reached 5.1.

I'd imagine it's somewhere around 3-4

edit* Got it to load, looks like 5. Damn, I think that's a bit of a stretch, granted he predicted this prior to this season. Last season, the only 3b's in the majors to crack 5 WAR were Zimmerman, Longoria, Beltre and Bautista (Chase Headley and Scott Rolen came close at 4.9 each)
