Seemed like a genuinely nice guy, and for a college basketball coach-that is saying something.

He had a stint on KMOX sports openline -or cohost with Jack Buck. It was great listening to him.

I can remember only a little about Spoonball. Honestly, I would've guessed he was older because he looked about 70 at the end of his SLU days.

That's a name I haven't heard in quite awhile. Good name for my next fish.

And, yes, buses will be missed. They slapped his name on Hull's restaurant in Union Station after Brett pulled out.

I'll miss the old timer. Kind of got into SLU basketball when he was there, and have always been a UNLV fan.

Didn't he tell H Waldman to make better passes, he wasn't throwing it to Larry Johnson anymore?

He'll always be a SMSU guy, to me. He made that program into what it is -- literally took them from a Division II school to a team that competed well as an upper mid-major in an upper mid-major conference.

We had season tickets to SMS games when I was growing up. I probably saw every home game he coached while at SMS. Great coach and great person.

Bball coach at McCluer HS, one of the top ranked teams in the STL area.

I do miss the Spoonball days at SLU. For a couple of years they had St Louis Steamers-like excitement around the program.

I don't remember any of his SLU teams having anyone over 6'2"...but they could sure shoot the 3's.

The plastic spoons all over campus was cute too.
