Time to get Oswalt - Too late, he's a Ranger (pg 7)

I'm sure Wainwright will eventually settle down and get back close to what he was (His K rate, BB rate are still in order. Just a lot of HRs), but right now, he just doesn't have it. Carpenter is a good 2 months away minimum, Garcia has been terrible, and I can't expect Lohse and Westbrook to keep this up.
So....get it done, Walt.

Oswalt is more of a injury risk than Carpenter. Do you really expect a half a season from him? I don't

This has been a huge brain fart from the FO. As soon as Carpenter showed signs of being significantly hurt, it shouldn't even have been any question whether to sign Oswalt. Waino, to me, wasn't going to be himself in '12. Just too soon after surgery. In fact, isn't the going rate on recovering TJ patients at least 1yr? The FO knew this and didn't prepare. They tend to take this approach often. Sort of hoping to get career years out of fringe players or being overly optimistic about injury reports. Poor preparation. I thought this was a TLR thing. Though it may also be something they learned from Tony.
Just sign the guy already

Yes. There really is no reason to think he can't pitch effectively and healthy for 3 months.

Completely agreed.

I tend to disagree. I think what you see is what you are going to get this year. He can be effective, but that co-ace? Not gonna' happen imo. Garcia is another big worry, in some ways I worry more about Garcia than Waino right now.
I agree ... Oswalt would be a good sign at this point.

Carpenter is no longer an injury risk, he is an injury certainty.

I guess I'm going to need some help understanding the sudden *need* for Oswalt, or that we made some major mistake by not signing him a few months ago.
Coming into the day, the Cardinals' pitching staff has a 3.19 ERA (115 ERA+), good for 2nd in the league. Obviously, Westbrook, Lohse, and Lynn aren't going to keep pitching as good as they have, but I think it is doubtful that Garcia and especially Wainwright continue to be as bad as they have been.
If Oswalt were to be brought in, who does he even replace right now? You aren't going to demote Westbrook, Lohse, or Lynn to the bullpen as well as they've pitched. You aren't going to demote Garcia or Wainwright, or DL Wainwright.
Quite simply, Oswalt would be a luxury for this team. I don't see the need. And if you really wanted to add depth just in case, Javier Vazquez would probably be half the price, and not much different of performer at this point.

I think the FO tries to buy time. They may know they won't get full seasons from Carp, AW, etc, but the longer you wait the less you will spend on Oswalt. You don't need Roy now, you need a rested Roy later. Also happens to cost less since you are only paying a partial year.

the last i heard (from a rotoworld blurb today) the earliest his arrival this year would be mid-july. im a huge pessimist but theres no way hes a factor this year.
i'd be on board with oswalt
