Kid Names
My sister is like 8 months pregnant. She has 3 kids with "My Parents Are Hip/Creative Types" names, but they're not ridiculous. They're just that kind of name. Very "unique" and cute. I have one of those names myself, so I'm on board with that.
This new one though...it goes too far. I hate it's name. It crosses too far into non-self aware hipster territory. Should I make an effort to change their minds or just shut up and roll my eyes behind their back? I feel like I owe it to my unborn niece to fight for her dignity.

It's tough to say without knowing what it is, but you should bring it up if it bugs you. Are they dead set on that name?

Re: Kid Names
What's the name?
I was wary when my brother said he was going to name his kid after a character from Battlestar Galactica but as soon as I met my nephew I could see how it fit. Once the name belongs to a physical kid that you care about I think you stop objecting to it for the abstract reasons you had when you first heard it.

Re: Kid Names
You should suggest something sensible, like Bob Thrill.
The biggest thing with an odd name is the grief the child might take from other kids.

Okay, that might be a problem. Hopefully by the time the kid is old enough to get teased indie won't have the same connotations it does now.bob thrill wrote:indie. As in the rock genre.G. Keenan wrote:What's the name?

"Hey sis! When is Japandroids due?"
"What?"
"When are you going to have Ted Leo & the Pharmecists?"
"What?"
"Ty Segall. When will you give birth to her?"

Hahaha.
That really is an unfortunate name choice.
