Details here.
At least 14 people were killed and 50 wounded when a gunman opened fire during an early Friday morning screening of the new Batman movie at an Aurora, Colorado, theater, Police Chief Dan Oates told reporters.
The heavily armed suspect, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was apprehended by police in a rear parking lot of the theater, Frank Fania, a police spokesman, told CNN. The suspect was not immediately identified, though Fania said he was believed to be in his early 20s.
Scary, scary stuff. What drives someone to do this?

Small consolation, but the death toll was revised down to 12.

Yes - it's just east of Denver - Columbine is southwest.

Just senseless.

When someone decides that they're going to make whatever sort of statement they believe an action of this sort is making, they'll look to maximize the damage. Lots of people very few ways to escape. I would say that ANYwhere where large groups of people gather are technically not "safe", with that being a very relative term.

EDIT: He's getting a long ripple effect too... Just read where Paris scrapped a gala opening where all of the actors were to be appearing.
