The 2012 Mizzou Football Thread

Post by JL21 »

It's time for this to exist.

I'm thinking 7-5 or more likely 8-4. And I expect this season to be a lot like last season, with a really grueling schedule with very few breathers.

I expect 8 wins, want 9, and hope for 10.

I see winning all home games except Alabama and losing all road games except Tennessee or A+M, 8-4, or 9-3 if they beat both of those, unless they lose to Georgia. Arizona State is not as good as last year, is that true?

Yeah, ASU is supposed to take a pretty big step back this year, and really, they were a worse team in November than they were in September last year. New coach, new QB, I think bowl eligibility is supposed to be a struggle for them this year.

Here's the email I sent out to our office:
To any Arkansas fan willing to put your money where your mouth is, please read below.

Unfortunately Mizzou won't be beating Arkansas this year since they don't play. However, they have 4 common opponents: Alabama, Kentucky, SC and aTm. I'll put a steakburger lunch on Mizzou having a better point differential in any of those games than Arkansas does. In other words, Mizzou final score - Opponent final score = X and Arkansas final score - Opponent final score = Y. My wager is X > Y. I'll take individual bets or we can lump them all together. Either way, I look forward to eating a lot of free steakburger lunches from the Butcher Shop. And, yes, TAT, you have to tip.
Boom!!!

What did I just see on Twitter. Mizzou currently has the 28th ranked recruiting class in the country. It's also 11th ranked in the SEC...
So, it is true, EVERYONE wants to play in the SEC. Unless Oklahoma, USC, or Ohio St. offer, kids would rather play for a middle of the pack SEC team (TAM, ARK, MIZZ, SC, GA etc...) than any other school.

How does everyone think the O and D lines are going to hold up. They'll be undersized.

I think the O line will hold up just fine. I know SEC defenses are amazing and blah blah blah but Mizzou has put together some really great O lines the last 5 years or so. Last year was sort of the exception, and that had more to do with injuries and inexperience than anything else.

I think the front wave of the D line will do well, also- Madison, Richardson, Sam, Kony Ealy. But the depth is a major issue there. If there are injuries, it's going to be tough to deal with.

The secondary and D line depth are far and away my biggest concerns for 2012.

I think part of that is that the SEC is a little better, and part of it is that the SEC competes so strongly amongst themselves within their footprint, that the commitments are earlier than other places. A little confirmation bias in choosing which guys are 3* v. 4* comes into play too. To wit:

SEC schools: 16.8 commits, 3.3 stars
Big 12 schools: 11.5 commits, 3.1 stars
Big 10 schools: 12.4 commits, 3.1 stars

So yeah, the SEC is pulling in slightly better classes, but the eye-popping "11th best is in the Top 30" is largely due to the timing right now.

MU pulls in Boehm and DGB and still only 11th in conference?
