Rave: Steve's Hot Dogs on the Hill

Post by JL21 »

There's a relatively new (a year old or so) place on the Hill- Steve's Hot Dogs on the Hill, owned by the lead singer of the Urge. It's [expletive] awesome.

First and foremost, the people who work there could not be more friendly. It's the kind of place that makes you want to give them your money.

Second, the dogs are great. I know some folks aren't into the whole "pile crap onto some meat and bread" deal, but they do it REALLY well here. For instance, their gorilla mac n' cheese- which is mac n' cheese, fried onions, and bacon crumbles on a dog- is a great combo of a smokey dog and mild cheese. I've had several things off the menu and never been disappointed. They have one dog (called the Wookie, because they're Star Wars nerds) topped with Pappy's pulled pork and slaw.

Obligatory... here's the website:

Here's the Instagram account, which is basically hot dog porn:

And a pic of the mac n' cheese, spoilered for size:

There is no ass kicking I have received quite like the Urge mosh pit at Mississippi Nights circa 1994.

And yes, I would like to try his hot dog.

There's just nothing you can put on a hot dog to make it interesting. I could probably eat some of those mentioned and think they were ok, but at the end of the day it's still a hot dog. I'm going to pick anything but that if I have the option.

You could duplicate that with items bought at Walmart or the 99c Store.

He's also opening up a Steve's Dogs in Tower Grove and we donated to his indiegogo fund raising site. JL, it's going to be attached to the Tick Tock Tavern (closed in '94 and reopening). This can definitely be a new hang out spot for us!
