I thought this was going to be a rant about telemarketers who call and ask who they're speaking with.

I hate that...
My wife has a name that most American's can't pronounce. So, if they butcher it when asking for her, I just hang up, since it's proof they shouldn't be calling.

My dad has a hard-to-pronounce name. When I was a kid and someone called and butchered his name, I'd tell them there was no one here by that name, since it was true.

Friends of our family had a really easy time telling when a telemarketer called. Her name is Brett and his name is Chris so if they asked for Mr. Brett [last name] or Mrs. Chris [last name] it was pretty obvious.

I just say hello. When I get that 2-3 second pause I know it's a telemarketer. I wait for the person on the other end to say "hello?" (which they always do) then I hang up.

When I get a telemarketer I just speak Spanish to them. Lo siento seƱor pero no hablo ingles... It's amazing how far they will go with the script anyway.

Once they called back with a Spanish language person though, so then I had to go into English. "What? Huh? Why the hell do *I* have to press one for English?"
