Darts
It's got to be one of the most fun ways to pass time with friends and have something to do. Right up there with good card games.
I bought this dartboard back in 2007 and played a ton of darts from 07-09, from 09-14 I never really had a good place to put it. I thought about building a stand for it to put outside, but that just seemed like a huge pain in the ass. Last weekend I put it up in the garage and it is awesome, still.
As a side rave, that dartboard is still in pristine condition. No bounce outs or anything so far even after a 5 year hiatus.
I had to adjust it a little, which was a pain in the ass, because the box was a little crooked obviously. Drove me nuts.

I like playing, even though I'm not any good except when it comes to bending or breaking the plastic tips. I love watching the British pros they show on FSMW. The announcers are phenomenal.

Sidebar about dart-related fun...
When the Rams went to the Super Bowl against the Titans, I was just out of college, working in baseball. There were a couple of dudes on our team- pitchers- who stuck around town after the season was over. My roommate and I got a keg. The weirdest assortment of people showed up. One of my friends from grade school who I hadn't seen since I was 14, one of the intern chicks from the team I worked for, my roommate's girlfriend, and her friend, and I think her sister, plus the two pitchers...
At some point in the middle of the keg, the pitchers noticed the steel-tip darts that we had, and the dartboard. By the end of the night, they were standing all the way down the hallway, going full wind-up, pumping probably 80 mph darts toward the dartboard and the [expletive] drywall in my cheap-ass just-out-of-college apartment.
That night alone did outrageous amounts of damage to that apartment but it was one of the most fun nights I've ever had.

There is a huge drop-off in my enjoyment of throwing darts when the tip material changes from metal to plastic. Real darts, hella fun. Plastic darts, kinda annoying.cardsfansince82 wrote:I like playing, even though I'm not any good except when it comes to bending or breaking the plastic tips. Re: Darts
Yeah, between the darts popping out of the board and falling to the ground and having to constantly repair them the plastic setups mostly suck. But that's all I ever really see at bars.
I remember witnessing an especially dumb drinking game in college where everyone sat in a circle of chairs with a beer between their feet and took turns throwing a metal dart at each other's can. I think you had to drink from the top to the hole on the can so the object was to try to hit it toward the bottom. It only took about five minutes to see a dart get stuck in someone's leg.

Re: Darts
The biggest problem with steel tip darts is the damage they do to each other...aside from the wall and other persons and all that (but that's usually drunken human error so we'll leave that out for now). I don't spend a lot of money on darts and the feathers seem to act as a guidance for the thrown darts right into the plastic backs that hold the feathers of the darts already in the board. If you play enough and get decent enough, the darts can get clumped pretty close together and after a few thrown steel tips hit the back of the sitting plastic slots...it gets tough to get the plastic slots to hold up AND the feathers get so torn up trying to put them back in.
I guess it's a small complaint and/or maybe I should just get better darts. Though, I will say, it's a pretty awesome feeling to throw a dart and see it actually split the plastic slots and stick into the back of the dart you just threw. That happened often enough that we had a rule that counted the thrown dart as the same as the one that was in the board.

The only thing better is jarts - because of that sound it makes as it re-enters the atmosphere and pfffffffffmmmmppp - buries itself into the ground or someones skull. I love getting drunk and just lettin' them [expletive] fly.JL21 wrote:You get drunk and you throw things really hard at a wall. What's not to love, really?

Re: Darts
Is there much of a pro scene in the US? Because we love that [expletive] over here - here's yer man Phil Taylor, probably the best player of all time:

There's a decent living to be made if you can get on the "circuit", too. The atmosphere at one of the big tournaments is pretty amazing, it's a bit pro wrestling-like.
