So aside from just a handful of things, I like to read things before I see them. I want to get my own view of the author's world before I view and judge someone else's vision.

My wife wants to watch a show but thinks I'll like it. She already enjoyed the book awhile ago. I say, ok, I'll read it. She says, yeah, but its kinda long. I say, hey, I got through all the Game of Thrones in around 3 months so we could watch the show, I'll get through this book.

Its a tick over 1000 pages. Its a book the size of 3 or 4 books!

That's like 990 pages too many.

I'm in the habit of mostly reading huge books. Not sure what draws me to them, but my last three reads have been second reads of Infinite Jest (1100 pages), Against the Day (same), and Mason & Dixon (800), and I have The Instructions (1000), and The Recognitions (900) on deck.

I guess it just depends how crunchy it is. I tried to do Infinite Jest twice. It's not the length of the book so much as the length of the paragraphs that really got me. Plus extensive endnotes. That books a lot of work. Maybe I'll try again some time. I'm sure it's rewarding.

Otoh, 19th Century serials are sometimes super long but also breezy.

Oooh yeah. I read The Counte of Monte Cristo in about three days back in junior high. Been too long since I read that one, now that I think about it...

I really wish I enjoyed reading books, especially novels, more than I do. If I find one a year, I'm doing pretty good. Don't know if there's an answer other than going to the library.

Iirc-longest book i read was Shantaram. It didnt need to be 700plus

I can't remember the longest book that I've read but I've been rather disappointed recently in how short some books are. I swear books are getting shorter and shorter as time goes on, especially since the popularity of e-readers and tablets has risen. These e-books claim to be 300 pages but I don't think 300 pages in the digital age is the same as 300 in print. I find that I'm burning through books so much faster than I think I should be able to based on the paperback days and I doubt it is because I suddenly learned how to read faster as I age.

Not sure what you're referring to regarding page count, but I don't think they're supposed to be the same. You change the font and the size, and the page count changes along with it. Changes depending on the device being used too. If they're stating on the seller's page that it's X pages, I assume that corresponds to the paper count but I'm not sure.

I'd say 75% of the books I read are 750+ pages. Most are around 1k or more. Longest was probably 1300ish pages in hardback.

Course, 90% of what I read is classified under the epically-long fantasy series genre.
