Rave: Winning the company's United Way raffle

Post by Swirls »

So I got a call this morning that I won the grand prize for our company's United Way campaign. 50 yard line tickets for the Vikings/Packers game this weekend!!!

It's the home opener of the brand new stadium against my favorite team. Mrs. Swirls and I will be there loaded up in Green and Gold.

Nice! You can see your tax dollars at work. Free tickets will probably also be the only way I see my tax dollars at work there.

what did you think of the new place Swirls?

Note- This seemed kind of weird during the game last night, apparently they have funnel injured players through a massive sports bar to the locker room -notably Adrian Peterson

I noticed that. Looked like they were walking him through the floor of a casino to me.

It was loud. Very very very loud. Way louder than when we were only 5-6 rows from the stage/speakers at the AC/DC concert earlier this year before Brian Johnson had to quit the rest of the tour.

I'd never been to a Vikings game before, so I have no idea if their annoying song the whole stadium sings whenever they score is new to this year or if it's a tradition. At least "Go Cubs Go" is only sung once the game is over (which I still find ironic because the fans are singing that "the Cubs are gonna win today" only AFTER they've actually won the game). That damn Vikings song was sung each time they scored, even a field goal. Plus every single time Green Bay had a third down the viking horns would be blared on the speakers - didn't matter if it was third and inches or third and 25.

Overall, the stadium is gorgeous and incredible. We went up to the very top row possible in the nosebleed 3rd concourse, and the view was still pretty nice. You would obviously have to squint somewhat to make out individual jersey numbers, but there are massive massive jumbotrons at each end of the field so you could always glance at them to see who was involved in the specific play.

They announced during the game that the city of Minneapolis recently broke ground on a 200-acre plot near the stadium that will house the practice field as well as some other businesses and whatnot. Basically they're making something equivalent to the giant monstrosity that Stan Kroenke is going to build in LA, except only one team will be using it. Spring 2018 is the planned opening for the "ballpark village."

The biggest problem of the night was leaving the stadium. Almost 70,000 fans were all trying to hop on the light rail at the same time, so it took us almost an hour after we left the stadium before we finally got into a train car headed for the 45 minute ride to the train station in downtown St. Paul where our car was.

We could have sold our tickets for a couple thousand dollars. I'm not gonna lie, we seriously considered it. If they were playing any team but the Packers, we probably would have. Who knows, maybe we'd then buy a pair of nosebleed seats from a scalper and still come out $1,500 ahead.

Was there ever much push to go nordic, and make it open-air and similar turf to Lambeau?

The last part about selling the tickets is how i feel about game 4 of the 2004 WS a little. Only my problem was that my idiot friend refused to camp outside of the stadium with me to get because he wasn't sure if he'd be able to go to the game. Couldn't get him to consider scalping the ones we didn't need.

Instead of selling a pair for $1200+ (the cheapest anybody near us paid for a pair of $65 bleacher seats) and still having another pair left to still go to the game, we just used the tickets I bought and didn't profit.

I'll never forgive him for that. I probably should have taken somebody other than him to the game but I'm an idiot.
