Reading up a little bit after you posted this (thanks for sharing, by the way....... I hadn't been following this kid), it sounds like Montero's bat would play well at 1st base as well.

Haven't heard much about him. This year seems a little excessive, but his '17 was good, too. Potential here. I like it.

Montero is error prone but most think he'll stick at 3B long term. His hitting ability has never been in question.

The hitters definitely seem to be ahead of the pitchers at the lower levels of the system.

There are things to look at with lower level hitters, such as contact ability, Iso, and understanding of the strike zone. The last one goes beyond simply walking, which most hitters do at the low levels. It has more to do with understanding what's a pitch you can drive, what's a pitch to lay off even if it's a strike, and obviously, what's a ball.

Montero is someone who made my list of Cards prospects a few years running now. He's put up impressive numbers basically everywhere he's been and is a legitimate prospect.

Odds are if you have a bunch of guys at a position that aren't assured of staying there, several will move, but one or two will stick. Whether it's Montero or Gorman- or both- it's nice to see development at corner infield.

Jeff Zimmerman has him ranked as the #75 hitting prospect in baseball using a "stats based model."

While it doesn't prove much at the moment, it's nice that he's being seen as a legitimate prospect based on his stats. The scouting world sees him as a prospect as well, which is nice to see him developing into an asset.
