Dead Indian Memorial Road

No really, it's a thing.

I had a flat tire going over the summit on the Ashland side of this highway on the way over to Klamath Falls yesterday. While I was changing the tire it hit me that if we were all to be consistently disrespectful around here we need to say that Dead Indian Memorial Road is in Dead President Memorial County (Jackson) in Dead Mapmaker Memorial Country.

I vowed to myself I will no longer refer to this road in this way. So when I changed the tire and got within some cell service, I told the person I was going to meet I would be late because I had a flat on Indian Memorial. They knew what I was talking about.

"Indian" in general as a reference to Native Americans needs to go away forever.

I'm honestly down for changing all dead president slaveowner named counties. Or re-appropriate like King County in Washington to be named for MLK and not a slaveowner from Alabama named William King.

I wish Washington would change its flags and road signs to not have a GW head on them. I know that will be hard and lots of dumb money better spent on houseless shelters and better healthcare options, but I do hate it. State should be renamed to Yakima too.

What I love about the story at the link is that "Memorial" was added to the name after 100 years to make it somehow acceptable.
