Shelly Duvall, Dr. Ruth, Richard Simmons, Shannen Doherty Pass Away

Shannen Doherty, a child actor who became one of the biggest stars of the 1990s as a student on the high school drama “Beverly Hills, 90210,” died Saturday after facing breast cancer for several years.
She was 53.
Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, but she went into remission two years later. That reprieve wouldn’t last. In February 2020, court documents in a lawsuit Doherty filed against her insurance company over damage to her home said she was “dying” of Stage 4 breast cancer, which metastasized to the point of being incurable.
“It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways,” Doherty told “Good Morning America” at the time. “There are definitely days where I say, ‘Why me?’ And then I go, ‘Well, why not me? Who else besides me deserves this?’ None of us do.”
The fitness guru, who died at age 76 on July 13, previously spoke about enjoying “life to the fullest” in a candid Facebook post on March 18, as he also shared tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
“I have some news to tell you. Please don’t be sad. I am … dying. Oh I can see your faces now. The truth is we all are dying. Every day we live we are getting closer to our death,” Simmons began the post.
“Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to enjoy your life to the fullest every single day,” he continued. “Get up in the morning and look at the sky … count your blessings and enjoy.”
Dr. Ruth Westheimer, the sex therapist, talk show host and author, has died, her publicist announced. She was 96.
"It is with immense personal sorrow that I announce the passing of the iconic Dr. Ruth K Westheimer at the age of 96, whose 'Minister of Communications' I've been since 1981," publicist Pierre Lehu said in a statement to ABC News.
Her family added: "The children of Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer are sad to announce the passing of their mother, the internationally-celebrated sex therapist, author, talk show host, professor, and orphan of the Holocaust. She died peacefully at her home in New York City on July 12th surrounded by her loving family, just over a month after celebrating her 96th birthday."

Doherty is so young. And her death is infuriating, because apparently she got screwed on insurance when she was dropped by her agency, and as a result didn't go in for preventative and recommended testing which would have caught her breast cancer earlier. We have a deranged healthcare system.
Richard Simmons was awesome.
Dr. Ruth was also awesome. A holocaust survivor who then became a sniper during the war launched immediately after Israel's independence. Apparently she could still dis and reassemble her rifle with her eyes closed at age 90.

I'm actually going to the Stanley Hotel next week (which was the setting for the Overlook Hotel in the Shining). Apparently there is a tribute to her in the lobby. I'll report back. May have to hack through a door with an axe.

My mom swat to the Oldies. I miss Oldies. Still know every word from driving around with my dad. A wop bop a loo bop a wop bam boo.
Anyway, I was going to go up to Timberline Lodge so I could compare notes with Zeus as it also was used for the Shining, but Daddy took the T-Bird away.

Shelley Duvall, the actor best known for her roles in “The Shining,” “Nashville,” and “Popeye,” died in her Blanco, Texas, home on July 11, 2024, at age 75. Her cause of death was complications from diabetes.
Duvall hadn’t been seen in public for some years prior. Her last role was in “The Forest Hills,” a 2023 horror film. Before that, she hadn’t appeared in a film since “Manna From Heaven,” released in 2002.
