Several notable players have played for both the Brewers and Cardinals franchises including Ted Simmons, Darrell Porter, Fernando Vina, Mike Matheny, Jim Edmonds and Kolten Wong.

One 1980 trade is significant for both teams and helped to propel them to face off in the 1982 World Series. Details of the trade:

Brewers Received: Rollie Fingers (RHP), Ted Simmons (C), Pete Vuckovich (RHP).

Cardinals Received: Sixto Lezcano (OF), David Green (OF), Lary Sorensen (RHP), Dave LaPoint (LHP).

Rollie Fingers was originally acquired by the Cardinals from the Padres on Dec 8, 1980, before being flipped to Milwaukee four days later. The Cardinals also acquired Bruce Sutter from the Cubs on Dec 9, 1980, making Fingers expendable

Ultimate impact:

Brewers: The deal is considered one of the best in Milwaukee history, as Fingers won the 1981 AL MVP and Cy Young, and Vuckovich won the 1982 AL Cy Young. The team reached the 1982 World Series.

Cardinals: Whitey Herzog restructured the team for speed and defense. While they lost the 1981 playoff spot, they utilized the acquired pieces (specifically trading Lezcano) to later help acquire Ozzie Smith.

I wonder what the reason was to move the makeup game to July and not just a double header today? We do have to travel, but don't have a game till the evening tomorrow night, and MIL is off tomorrow.

the series in July was already a 4 game series, and now it a 5 game series, and neither team has any off days around there? it is a few days from the all star beak though...
